The Tunnel: Names
"Where you boys headed?" the man asked.
"California," said Bart.
"It's a long way to California from here, I'm afraid."
"Anywhere along the highway south is fine. We don't have any money to thank you with, unfortunately."
"Don't need any money. The Lord, he whispered in my ear as we was passin by, said I should help you boys. I can take you as far as Albany, but I'll need to drop my family off first."
"That's most kind of you, sir," said Bart. He looked over at the Devil and wondered who indeed had whispered into the driver's ear.
"What's your name?" asked one of the little pigs in the back. Her voice really did sound like a squeal.
"Me?" The Devil turned to look at the girl and smiled, "Why I'm the--"
"Devin," said Bart, "He's Devin, my name's Bart."
"California," said Bart.
"It's a long way to California from here, I'm afraid."
